Folder permission errors in Evolution backup after reinstalling Ubuntu

Due to some technical problem, had to reinstall my ubuntu installation, and while doing so, also formatted my hard drive. Before making this move I had smartly copied all my files and folders, specifically backed up my tomboy notes, fonts etc. But after much precaution and all careful steps taken, when I actually got my machine back and started to use it, got to know that I just did a dumb thing! I didn’t create the backup from evolution for my emails. Now moving through all my files and detailed introspection I found an old Evolution backup archive (evolution-backup.tar.gz), but that too was nearly six months old. Continue reading

Goodbye IE6, join the countdown to history

Finally Microsoft has decided to mercy kill IE6, one of its old family members and the browser is counting it’s last days from 4 Mar 2011 at ie6countdown.com. Many may feel sorry to say goodbye, but now all web developers designing websites (specifically corporate sites) can enjoy a “IE6 hack” free life :) .

The site shows a percentage breakdown of who uses the ten-year-old browser in what parts of the world, along with other links like “Join the cause”, “Educate others”,  and Internet Explorer 9 download. Continue reading

VirtualBox – Space Problem?

Get an icons only firefox bookmarks toolbar

Every now and then you create a bookmark link by dragging the website shortcut icon to the firefox bookmark toolbar.

Everything is fine, but after a while you cannot find all the frequently visited websites in the toolbar because it gets hidden after you have added lots of bookmarks to the bookmarks panel and you have to click the “>>” link to find and go to that site. Continue reading
